How else could we recognize this special night except to have guest DJ Dave Washburn come by and drop a 6-dimensional set of 80s inspired dance fire.

You can count on DJs Lazer & Blazer to bring some heavy good house and Balearic bam, while Properly Chilled drops the heavy dub bass and spicy rhythms. Serious underground dance vibes!

Come on out and help us all celebrate Blazer's (aka George) birthday!!!!

The workshop addresses emerging and professional art practitioners, scientists, researchers, and students from different backgrounds in performance and new media committed to sharing their interest in developing a deeper understanding of composing work focused on real time, interactive or time-based experiences and multidisciplinary collaborative processes (video, sound processing, projection design, lighting, choreography, and directing).

Résumé and informal letter of application are due by June 30, 2010. More information on this workshop and how to submit your application will be available shortly.

In the Academy Award-winning documentary, Man on Wire, director James Marsh weaves together period footage, interviews, and re-enactment to create an account of Petit's daring and defiant tightrope walk between the Twin Towers in 1974 and the months of secret preparation that led up to it. The film examines the relationship between humans and gravity, dreaming and doing. Presented in conjunction with Dancing on the Ceiling: Art & Zero Gravity.

Josephine Foster bio:
Josephine Foster is a singer-songwriter from Colorado whose music

[HvEXAS] EMPAC | Upending + Music of Helmut Lachenmann | March 25 - 27

EMPAC
a still from Upending by The OpenEnded Group
PERFORMANCE, TALK
The OpenEnded Group: Upending
Thursday, March 25 - Saturday, March 27
$15/10/$5
Thursday, March 25, 7 PM
Friday, March 26, 7 PM
Saturday, March 27, 2 PM

Upending is revelatory work of 3D animation: an actor-less drama of disorientation and reorientation that compels viewers to rethink their relationship with the material world. The play of images is accompanied by a gutsy, EMPAC-produced spatial recording of Morton Feldman's first String Quartet by the FLUX Quartet. Following a short break, each evening will conclude with a talk and q&a on the making of Upending with The OpenEnded Group, tracing this EMPAC-commissioned work over two years, from inception to completion.

Music of Helmut Lachenmann
SIGNAL

Brad Lubman, Conductor
Helmut Lachenmann, Composer, Piano, Speaking Soloist
Lauren Radnofsky, Cello
JACK Quartet
Saturday, March 27, 8 PM
Concert Hall
$15/10/5

Helmut Lachenmann is one of Europe's most influential living composers, whose music uses an iconoclastic vocabulary of instrumental sounds, recombined to create imaginary timbres. The result can be uncanny: imagine a string quartet able to sound like a forest floor, the murmurs of a crowd, or the loose strings of a broken banjo. This demanding, imaginative music will come alive in a concert by SIGNAL, one of the most exciting chamber orchestras playing in America today, and the JACK Quartet, with Lachenmann himself performing on solo piano.

Longtime regular Ryan Kick will be teaming up with partner Brian Anderson as "Hustle & Flow," appearing in Troy for the first time! With releases on labels like Kolour and Greenhouse, they keep it going louder. Get there early for Properly Chilled, always on point with that song you've been dying to hear but just didn't know it. And finishing it off is Goodship's own Jenks, laying down the dirty beats to finish the night off right and heavy.
