[HvEXAS] ASAC July 12: Brendan Murray, Brown Wing Overdrive

Thanks to everyone who made it out for our June event, with special guests Thurston Moore and Bill Nace.  It was a great night!  Some nice pictures from it are now up on our website (www.albanysonicarts.blogspot.com).  Special thanks to Chris Bassett and Jessica Darnell for their excellent photography.

 

So our next event is Saturday July 12, and it's bound to be a scorcher.  Don't miss out - we can't promise free pizza and cake this time, but there will be plenty of amazing music and a good chance to hang out.

Brendan Murray is a self-taught musician living in Medford, MA. He has actively recorded and performed with electronics since 1999. He regards his music as a balance between spontaneous sound making and compositional rigor, with an emphasis on drones and repetition. He records and processes instruments and tapes until all traces of instrumentality are blurred, leaving only large blocks of pure sound.

 

He has recorded four full-length CDs, four cdrs and two cassettes for various record labels in the United States and Europe. Murray has also toured extensively throughout the United States as a solo performer and as a member of various improvising ensembles.

 

Brown Wing Overdrive is an electronic trio from Brooklyn specializing in improvisation.  Members include Chuck Bettis (electronics and vocals), Mike IQ Jones (electronics and objects), and Derek Morton (electronics and banjo)  Between them, they have deep histories in punk rock and electronic improvisational music.  Their music has been described as "amorphous ebb-and-flow ooze rippling over No Neckian pick, blurt, and throttle".   Their debut CD, "We Have Issues: live at Issue Project Room", is available on Living Myth Records.

[HvEXAS] 4th of July Afterparty @ Fuzebox, Albany

This month marks a funky and fun night of the arts in Albany,
starting at 5pm. The event is fittingly named... 1st Friday.
Residents and visitors flock to downtown Albany for this highly
anticipated art event, administered by the Upstate Artists Guild...

Then see the Empire State Plaza fireworks 9pm to 10pm...

Then come shake ur rump at The Fuze Box 12 Central Ave Albany,
walking distance from Empire State Plaza!

Gold Star / Live Performance-Berkeley trained pianist gone mad,
Detroit techno nicely infused with live piano, funk and soul.

Lazer & Blazer / DJ-Are Tech-house, electro, ghettotech and just
plain nasty DJ/producers.

Scooby Caroline/Massive Audio.

They rocked Revolution Hall at last weekend's Troy night out after
party, come see them do it again in Albany.
