[HvEXAS] ASAC, 31 July = HAIR POLICE

July 31 - UAG Gallery 247 Lark St. Albany
Doors 7:30, Music 8:00 PM  SHARP

Before I heard HAIR POLICE play a single noise, I met them when they came to hear me and Greg Kelley in Lexington, KY several years ago and helped make it the best show on the tour.  A great band *and* a great audience all in one!  What's not to like about a band like that??

I'm also looking forward to playing joining my duo with Linda (rise set twilight) together with Eric and Ray of ASAC (Century Plants) to form the latest contribution to a proud tradition of noise-band Voltrons, Twilight of the Century.

Hair Police (noise psych rock masters from Louisville)
Bone Parade (Albany's own makers of "dark soundscapes")
Twilight of the Century (Troys' Rise Set Twilight meets Albany's Century Plants - see what happens!)
Ghoul Poon + Jason Cosco (electronics/noise/madness/excellence from Albany)
8PM's the time.  $10 is the suggested donation.

[HvEXAS] REMINDER: the official unofficial troy night out afterparty | fri. 07/25 from 10 pm to 2 am | daisy baker's, troy, ny

quick note: the part about "taking it to the street" is still just
awesome, but is now more of a metaphor. in that the outside portion
of the evening's whatnot has been cancelled and everything will now
start at 10 pm, leaving you that much more time and energy to take it
to the streets.... in your mind. but inside really. make sense?

i have another metaphor for you, which is less of a metaphor than an
actual request: drag people along! tell your co-workers or people on
the bus or that you met in the delicatessen! bring me a balloon.
and so forth...

The Official Unofficial Troy Night Out Afterparty
(presented by Goodship & Daisy Baker's)

Friday, July 25, 2008
8 to 10 pm : on the streets! / 10 pm to 2 am: we head inside!
Daisy Baker's (upstairs + downstairs)
33 2nd Street, Troy, New York
FREE / got to be 18 to get in (ID required)

Last month was crazy, right? Somehow, amidst the lure of impending
fireworks and dreams of independence, the Goodship crew got kidnapped
by some wild Albany ruffians! Whatever happened, I can only hope it
was at the bare minimum fresh (crazy fresh is just too much to hope
for). No kidnappings or skullduggery this month - we are, however,
rolling the whole shebang a few blocks south this month for a lovely
reuniting with Daisy Baker's. And, in the words of Michael McDonald,
we are taking it to the streets! As the streets are still filled
with the revelry that is Troy Night Out, the Goodship crew will be
filling the streets with the in sounds from way out from 8 to 10 pm -
or at least whatever cml is spinning that night. Then it all segues
from outside to inside, where all your favorites will be holding it
down for those without a fear of enclosed spaces (or the very real
fear of having a full-on Friday night). Yow.

The Heat Is On! It's On The Streets!
Well, then it moves into Daisy Baker's...

sound:

cml (regional "duck hunt" champ of '95 and again in '97)
back from japan (international boot scoot boogie)
jenkins (dexterity equals plus 1 - so lame)

vision:

Vodstrup (a silver globe is almost as good as a golden one, right?)
skfl (good good good good vibrations)

Brendan Murray is a self-taught musician living in Medford, MA. He has actively recorded and performed with electronics since 1999. He regards his music as a balance between spontaneous sound making and compositional rigor, with an emphasis on drones and repetition. He records and processes instruments and tapes until all traces of instrumentality are blurred, leaving only large blocks of pure sound.

He has recorded four full-length CDs, four cdrs and two cassettes for various record labels in the United States and Europe. Murray has also toured extensively throughout the United States as a solo performer and as a member of various improvising ensembles.

Brown Wing Overdrive is an electronic trio from Brooklyn specializing in improvisation.  Members include Chuck Bettis (electronics and vocals), Mike IQ Jones (electronics and objects), and Derek Morton (electronics and banjo)  Between them, they have deep histories in punk rock and electronic improvisational music.  Their music has been described as "amorphous ebb-and-flow ooze rippling over No Neckian pick, blurt, and throttle".   Their debut CD, "We Have Issues: live at Issue Project Room", is available on Living Myth Records.

Hope to see you there!

From Eric Hardiman of Albany Sonic Arts Collective!! .....

Thanks to everyone who made it out for our June event, with special guests Thurston Moore and Bill Nace.  It was a great night!  Some nice pictures from it are now up on our website (www.albanysonicarts.blogspot.com).  Special thanks to Chris Bassett and Jessica Darnell for their excellent photography.

So our next event is Saturday July 12, and it's bound to be a scorcher.  Don't miss out - we can't promise free pizza and cake this time, but there will be plenty of amazing music and a good chance to hang out.
