Rosa Sanchez and Alain Baumann of Kònic thtr present excerpts of past works and share the status of their current work in progress, Before the beep‚ a dance performance piece inside an interactive and distributed installation, activated by viewers via cell phones, online, and in person.

Guy Maddin: Tales from the Gimli Hospital: Reframed

Commissioned by Performa 11 with the National Arts Centre of Canada, this unique work in progress event pairs the acclaimed filmmaker's classic first feature film with a new live score performed by a remarkable cast of Icelandic string musicians and vocalists including twin sisters Kristin Anna Valtysdottir and Gyda Valtysdottir (formerly of the band múm), Sigur Rós bandmates Amiina, Borgar Magnason, and more.

Both are free - seating is limited

69˚S. is inspired by the harrowing journey of Ernest Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica. Phantom Limb unites puppetry, dance, film, history, and photography with contemporary music to create a stunning vision of Antarctica's past, present, and future.

Glasses and bowls touch as they float through pools of water. The fragile sounds of this chance music combine with music created from the buildings network activity that plays on two computer-controlled pianos.

Please join us on Thursday, September 1 for two free work in progress showings by current artists in residence.

6:00 PM—Kònic thtr: Before the beep

Rosa Sánchez and Alain Baumann of Kònic thtr present excerpts of past works and share the status of their current work in progress, Before the beep—a dance performance piece inside an interactive and distributed installation, activated by viewers via cell phones, online, and in person.

7:30 PM—Guy Maddin: Tales from the Gimli Hospital: Reframed

Commissioned by Performa 11 with the National Arts Centre of Canada, this unique work in progress event pairs the acclaimed filmmaker's classic first feature film with a new live score performed by a remarkable all female Icelandic cast including musicians formerly of the band múm as well as Sigur Rós collaborators Amiina.

Both events are free with limited seating—please arrive early.

Evelyn's Café will open at 5:30 PM with a full menu of meals, snacks, and beverages as well as a selection of wines. Service continues between and after events.

[HvEXAS] Fall 2011 Schedule

FALL 2011

This fall's schedule includes a journey to Shackleton's Antarctica via puppetry, dance, film, and music; underground noise/rock music; a film series steeped in déjà vu and non-linear timelines; the return of both onedotzero's adventurous film programs and new music vanguards JACK Quartet; a reinvention of the ancient Greek satyr play; knob-twisting, head-bopping beats by two of Britain's finest; a generous dose of multichannel electronic music from Montreal's annual AKOUSMA festival; contemporary and 2,000 year-old traditional Indian dances; the premiere of the recent DANCE MOViES Commission's installation and films (featuring a live punk marching band!); discussions spanning the arts and sciences; and an unexpected pop music spectacle.
