[HvEXAS] reminder: the official unofficial troy night out halfterparty | fri. 10/31 from 11:59 pm to 3 am | rev. hall, troy, ny

(Please forward / re-distribute as you see fit...)

The Official Unofficial Troy Night Out Afterparty
(presented by Goodship & Revolution Hall)

Friday, October 31, 2008
11:59 pm to 3 am
Revolution Hall
425 River Street, Troy, New York, 12180
$2 / got to be 18 to get in (ID required)

It is a time of great unrest: braineaters roaming the streets,
innocents sequestered to dungeons (in London, of all places), zombies
(astro or otherwise) doing their zombie-type whatnot, and so much
more. Too much horror business, indeed. It is therefore comforting
in these dark time that there is always the afterpart. Or, this
month, the halfterparty. What is the halfterparty, you might aks?
Well, the halfterparty is all things to all people all the time - or,
in this case, at least half. After Sirsy does its regular Halloween
hours at Rev. Hall, The Official Unofficial Troy Night Out Afterparty
bring the high-powered fluoride sting that is... The Official
Unofficial Troy Night Out Halfterparty. Half the duration, half the
price, half priced Sparks for a half hour (or until they run out) -
but twice the jerks (see below) and many, many times the hotness
(these days, anything goes)! I've said it before, and I will say it
again (well, next year at Halloween, any way): Children in Heat,
unit! See you Friday.

sound:

the jerks (back from japan and jenks tag team on three turntables, 1
mixer, a laptop or two, several glasses of beer, and a whole crate of
YOW to create it like it should have been created a long, long time
ago - drink it in, and put your hands up)

vision:

skfl (we stood on the wall during recess and liked it)
blar (pinch hitter to the freaking stars)

[HvEXAS] MV/EE + Wovoka in SARATOGA this Saturday night!

In between ASAC shows, we wanted to make sure you knew about this great event.  Do try to come up to Saratoga if you can - this is going to be a fantastic double bill, in a great venue.  See you there!

MV / EE & the Golden Road
              Wovoka

The Arts Center
320 Broadway
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
518-584-4132

Saturday November 1, 2008 at 8:00PM

$5 admission, all ages welcome

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see Vermont's MV / EE with
The Golden Road
.

MV & EE is a group of musicians focused around Matt Valentine,
sometimes referred to as MV, and his partner Erika Elder. Matt
Valentine was in the neo-psychedelic group, The Tower Recordings.
While the duo recorded under many different names, including MV & EE
Medicine Show, The Bummer Road, and The Golden Road
, most of the
records center around both artists and feature a rotating cast of
additional musicians. Their style is self-described as "lunar ragas",
with many of the lyrics dealing with celestial imagery. They combine
Indian raga style composition with Appalachian folk and
post-psychedelic electrical experimentalism. They use Western and
Eastern acoustic instruments amplified and augmented with effects
such as reverb, delay, and flange.

Read more about them at the ecstatic peace website

http://www.ecstaticpeace.com/mvee

or visit their myspace page at

http://www.myspace.com/mveebummerroad

Then come see them in Saratoga!

Wovoka opens. According to Aquarius Records, Albany underground
legend Wovoka is a mysterious purveyor of "gloriously sun-baked, drug
drenched slabs of psychedelic free folk splendor." Using a variety of
strategies such as "simple tribal drumming, chanted vocals, spidery
psych-rock guitars, and long stretches of blissful Appalachia and
buzzing drone-like raga," Wovoka has been known to mesmerize with
their magical and rare live appearances. Wovoka's highly limited and
beautiful records have become sought after by collectors around the
globe. Their music has been described as "a totally tripped-out late
afternoon drift through a skeletal world of folky twang and abstract
rhythmic shuffle, super laid back and totally hypnotic." An essential
two record vinyl set of reissues is due out soon on Time-Lag Records
from Maine. Go to
<http://www.myspace.com/wovokaholyroom>http://www.myspace.com/wovokaholyroom
for a sample!

[HvEXAS] saturday night ASAC event - be there!!

hello ASAC friends!

Hope you can make it out on Saturday night (just a mere two days away!) for our next installment of the monthly ASAC series.  We have one new act to announce, so check out the descriptions below, and as always, let us know if you have any questions.  It's almost the end of October, and we figured somebody's gotta do it, so...

Albany Sonic Arts Collective presents...

A Celebration of Glenn Tipton's Birthday!

HOLLAND HOPSON -  banjo, electronics.  If you've seen Holland play ASAC before, you'll know this isn't to be missed.  A fascinating blend of clawhammer banjo technique with handmade sensor systems and computer processing.  www.hollandhopson.com

CYRUS GENGRAS -  guitars, vocals, assorted instruments.  Cyrus is a phenomenal multi-instrumentalist who has released solo recordings, and also plays with Antique Brothers, Sleepy Demons,  and other outfits.  He also sits in occasionally as a special guest and third half of Century Plants, providing drums.  www.myspace.com/cyrusgengras

AARON PHILLIP TATE - Ithaca's finest!  Aaron will display his mastery of electro-acoustic improvisational styles as performed using electronics with no inputs.  The resulting soundworlds will be uniquely fascinating and compelling.  This will be his first Albany appearance and we're thrilled to be hosting it.

TWILIGHT OF THE CENTURY - a combination of Century Plants (Ray Hare and Eric Hardiman) and Rise Set Twilight (Mike Bullock and Linda Aubry Bullock).  Together, these 4 founding members of ASAC create a staggeringly complex soup of sound, and hey it's the time of year for soup, right?!?  Second live appearance ever, and you can say you were there!

Saturday Oct. 25
doors 7:30, music 8
$5 suggested donation
247 Lark St. Albany

[HvEXAS] next ASAC event = SATURDAY night Oct. 25!!

We hope you're all well and having fun rolling in all the leaves out there.

Don't worry, we haven't gone away!  We're very happy to announce the next monthly ASAC show at the UPSTATE ARTISTS GUILD at 247 Lark St. in Albany. It's this coming Saturday, October 25th, and we've decided what better way to spend the evening than to celebrate Glenn Tipton's Birthday and everything else that is great about Autumn.

COME JOIN US!  On tap, we'll have:

* Holland Hopson (the dynamic chimeric), banjo and electronics (Albany)
* Aaron Phillip Tate (Ithaca's finest, his first Albany appearance!)
* Twilight of the Century (Albany/Troy)
* more TBA!

Twilight of the Century = Century Plants (Eric Hardiman and Ray Hare) PLUS rise set twilight (Mike Bullock and Linda Aubry Bullock). This will be their second appearance at UAG, and it's bound to be a scorcher.
Sat. Oct. 25
Doors at 7:30, music at 8:00.
Upstate Artists Guild
247 Lark St.
