"From Within & Outside A Bright Room" by NYC choreographer/
Peggy Gould
In collaboration with composer Eve Beglarian, writer/performer Pamela
Sneed, vocalist Elizabeth Phillips, dancer/videomaker Jules Skloot,
and landscape architect/visual artist, W.Gary Smith, Peggy Gould will
present "From Within & Outside a Bright Room,"an amalgam of music,
dance, theater and visual media.
Built around excerpts from the text of Tony Kushner's play, "A Bright
Room Called Day," which is set both in the present day and in 1930's
Germany, Gould will draw connections between Kushner's play and
ideological challenges we currently face here in the U.S.; exploring
the murky realm of experience in which ordinary citizens come to terms
with the knowledge that their national morality is being steadily
subverted. Kushner's inspiring work sets the tone for a humorous
approach to thorny social issues, creating a unique space for
audiences and performers to encounter ourselves at our best and worst.
"From Within & Outside a Bright Room" is the latest installment in a
series of performance works begun in 1997 which Gould created from
this inspiring play. Previous installments have been produced in New
York City (The Field, Dixon Place), and in Houston, Texas (Big Range
Dance Festival.)
